What kind of thermostat do I need to buy if I have a heat pump with emergency heat?

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

Every thermostat I look at says it doesn’t work with a heat pump or not with emergency heat. Do you have any recommendations for a programmable one that isn’t +? Any links to cheap ones would be great.
I have found that not a t-stats that say they work with a heat pump have an "Emergency switch" or "Aux Switch". Is that required if my current t-stat does?

Wen I run a hot shower, why does the gas boiler (or pipes) bang after about 10 minutes?

Sunday, December 6th, 2009

The theremostat broke off my shower months ago and until I can get it fixed, the temperature is fixed at a fairly hot setting. After about 10 minutes a loud bang is emitted (I think from the pipes) which is then heard outside where the vent is. I know I need to get the thermostat fixed but does anyone know why this is happening? Is it becuase of the surge of hot water needed to run the shower? Is it causing damager? It only happens when running a hot shower.

Why do my heating and air conditioning units come on at the same time?

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

I have central air. I turned my heater on for the first time yesterday and it seemed to work just fine. I felt the air coming from the vents and it is warm. The temperature reached the set temp on the thermostat. The problem is that my air conditioning unit also comes on. I don’t think this is normal. Can someone please tell me why this is happening? Thanks.

Where can I locate where my thermostat is kept for my apt building?

Monday, November 16th, 2009

I live in a 10 unit apartment building with full access to the basement where circuit breakers and water heaters are kept. I want to adjust the thermostat to our furnaces but don’t know where the thermostat is kept to adjust it. Please don’t give me an answer to ask the landlord. I would just like to know where one should look if one were wanting to locate it.

What is more efficient with a hydronic radiant floor heating system, a programmable or regular thermostat?

Monday, November 16th, 2009

We just installed a radiant floor heating system and our plumber tells us that a regular thermostat is in fact more efficient than a programmable one, because it doesn’t have to use a lot of energy to get the water hot again. We installed a high efficient munchkin boiler. Thoughts?

My thermostat was showing 70, which is also the setting, when the unit kicked on and the thermostat began to drop. The unit is def on heat. I switched the fan from Auto to On and initially the blowing decreased, and then AUX heat kicked on and I am still at 68, feeling a mix of cool and warm air blowing.

Why is my water heater not working right?

Sunday, November 8th, 2009

I checked the power and it seems to keep blowing the circuit breaker. i switched it to another breaker and it worked for awhile but it is not working still. the breaker did not trip, what else do i need to check and how do i fix it?
i also have no hot water, my hot water heater is off a 20 circuit fuse. im not sure that matters but how do i tell if there is power going to the tank. if there is power than the thermostat went out?
