Why does my zucchini plants wilt in the sun?

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

The instructions state to plant zucchini in full sun, but my plants wilt in the heat. Also, can anyone tell me why the leaves on some of the plants turn grey? I live in Northridge, Ca where it does reach temps in the 100′s.

Why are are the leaves of my lemon tree folding up?

Friday, December 4th, 2009

Isn’t this a sign of to much sun but I thought lemon trees want full sun?

This tree is grown from seed and is in indoors. It’s about four feet high. I have several cuttings from trees that are over 100 years old and they are producing fruit. They love the sun. Their leaves love the sun. Why is this lemon different?

The leaves are long and slender unlike the others which are fat and slightly oval in shape. The tree does have the characteristic thorns so I know it’s a lemon and not something else.

I have theorized that maybe since my tree is from a seed from lemon bought at the store might be the reason why it’s sickly. Maybe it’s the offspring of a hybrid?

What do you think? Is direct sun not good for this lemon?

Why do all my pond plants turn yellow?

Sunday, November 29th, 2009

I don’t have plants this year because every previous year I’ve tried and they turn yellow. I have some koi and some various other goldfish and they are healthy and large. I’m wondering if they were eating the roots and subsequently killing the plants from underneath. I never saw them doing this, and I feed my fish pretty well, so they shouldn’t be hungry. I’d like to have plants again but I don’t see the point. Also, when I had plants last year, I had a huge amount of that hairy algae that I’d never had a problem with before. Plants are supposed to be beneficial but something’s wrong with the balance of my pond, apparently. It’s in almost full sun and it’s hot and humid in the summers here in Illinois. Any ideas why I have trouble?
Guys, I’m assuming you’re joking about too much water. These were floating POND plants like water lettuce and lilly pads. Ya don’t water them since they live in water…

I should mention our water here where I live is EXTREMELY hard. Would that do it?

Is it safe to wash nappies (diapers) on a cold water cycle in the washing machine?

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

I read recently that it was more the agitation and soap which got rid of the bacteria; even washing in hot water (boiling) didn’t kill all the baddies. These are modern cloth, so they’re made from PUL, bamboo, and microfleece. I hang them in the sun to dry when it’s sunny, but in rainy weather, they dry undercover (still outside).
