On well pump and it’s -3 degres outside only low pressure cold water to house?

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

Im on a well pump and its -3 degres outside right now. I went to turn on the water and I only get really cold water and extremely low pressure. Could it be that the water is frozen or the pump? If that could be the case what can I do to get hot water to the house again?
I should have mentioned we have a tankless water heater and the pilot light is lit. The water pressure we do have just drips.

Where do these yellow stains come from when I wash my white’s?

Monday, December 7th, 2009

I have white sheets for my bed. And it seems like everytime I wash them, I get these random YELLOW Stains. There were no stains on them prior to washing. I can easily remove them by spraying bleach on them. But it is getting really annoying that I have to wash these sheets twice! I think I am washing them in cold water, if that makes a difference. How do I prevent these yellow stains, and where are they coming from?

Why when I use the cold water in the kitchen, I lose hot water in the shower? How can I fix it?

Saturday, December 5th, 2009

Using the littlest bit of cold water drops water pressure and I lose hot water in my shower and probably other places. Why does the pressure drop and why does it affect the hot water?
Please Help!

How can I preserve an autograph on a t-shirt while continuing to wear it?

Sunday, November 29th, 2009

I got my t-shirt signed with a black Sharpie, and I know after a bunch of washes, it’ll fade (or run?). Someone please let me know how I can get the autograph to last longer (ex: soak in cold water? put in dryer?)

Is it safe to wash nappies (diapers) on a cold water cycle in the washing machine?

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

I read recently that it was more the agitation and soap which got rid of the bacteria; even washing in hot water (boiling) didn’t kill all the baddies. These are modern cloth, so they’re made from PUL, bamboo, and microfleece. I hang them in the sun to dry when it’s sunny, but in rainy weather, they dry undercover (still outside).

What happens if you wash a wool suit??

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

It’s 100% wool and supposed to be dry clean only. Long story short, can’t dry clean it by tomorrow, when he needs it. What if we washed it in cold water on the gentle cycle and then let it air dry? What’s the worst that could happen? If we absolutely shouldn’t do it, does anyone have any ideas of how to clean it at home?

Will the colors bleach each other, will the colors fade?

How do you get fake blood out of clothes?

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

The fake blood is made out of corn syrup and red food coloring. I need to get it out fast (without throwing it in the washing machine). Can I use dish soap and cold water to get most of it out?

What is the temperature needed for getting clothes clean in ‘cold’ water?

Sunday, November 22nd, 2009

I was reading the detergent bottle – yes I was that bored – and the instructions say to not wash in water less than 65F degrees. We have well water that is very cold, so I’m wondering if I should be washing clothes marked to wash in cold water only on a warm setting.
