Is it safe to let Ivy grow on a brick wall?

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

I have ivy growing on the side of my brick house. I have read that this can cause damage to the wall. I have also read that it is not true that ivy will damage a brick wall. What is the correct answer?

Is it hard to install faux brick to a wall in your house? Is “thin brick” cool?

I want to make one wall in my house look like it is brick. The faux brick that comes in panels looks bad. Has anyone installed "thin brick"? is it hard? What tools would I need?

How do you cut open the back of a disused chimney so it can be used as an alcove/extension in the next room?

This fits with what I expected… I know I’ll need a lintel to support the brickwork above the alcove, and I fully expect this to be the hardest part… especially weight wise. But a chimney isn’t just a brick wall… is it? What else do I find in there when I start digging?

I never see my neighbors washing out there trash pails. And after I sweep my house (which has no carpet) I always brush the broom outside or against the brick wall. I have never seen any of my neighbors do this. I actually feel silly soaking my trash can outside since I never see my neighbors doing this.

How do I put up fake spiders webs outside on a brick wall?

Friday, October 9th, 2009

My house is brick and I don’t have any wood to mount the web to short of going out and finding pieces (which I don’t really want to do for safety reasons). I had my heart set on using this for Halloween.

How do I mount the fake web without it blowing or getting rained away?

Thanks in advance :)
