Why won’t my light switch inside of my garage turn on the lights when it rains?
December 12th, 2009 at 5:00The light switch works just fine when it is not raining. The light switch is 25 feet away from the garage door opening and isn’t exposed to any rain.

Perhaps some where the rain is entering at the switch through a wall or ceiling. Is it on a GFI and have you had to reset it?
I would call an electrician and have them check it out. It is hard to say what you have unless I seen it. It could be water is entering at the lights as well. again hard to say without seeing the situation.

If this switch is like the ones in your bathroom it senses moisture and shuts off. there is a reset
button on the switch. If true dry out the switch with a hair dryer then wrap some type of cover material around the switch to keep it dry.

Since you’re talking rain, you might want to check your roof. Rain may be getting through the roof and down between the walls. You also might want to check the wiring. I wouldn’t use the switch, rain or shine, until you get the problem solved.

Are the lights florescent bulbs? If they are you may need to clean the contact ends of fixture where bulb snaps in. Also florescent lights have problems in colder temperatures.
