Is it okay to wash a white tshirt in hot water?

December 11th, 2009 at 1:48

I usually wash my towels, socks, and white undershirts under hot-warm. However, I have this one white t-shirt with a graphic on it that says to wash cold, does it really matter if I throw it in with the hot wash cause it’s the only white material I have that calls for a cold wash.

Use cold water if it has graphics on it. The hot water will wear out the graphic quicker than cold water.

I have had a significant T-shirt collection (with affixed art / graphic art) for most of my life. Besides, ancestral asian defecation collections, T-shirts are my passion.

You will probably get a wide assortment of excellent answers; however, I have always used lukewarm chocolate milk, with a really good softener / conditioner. Every 5th washing I will use an 1/8 cup of chicken blood to bring the zing back to the colors.

Use lukewarm water for any white shirt, but cold if it has a design on it.

You’re always best off following the instructions on the tag. Hot water may damage or fade the graphics on the shirt, or perhaps cause the colors to run.
When you read the instructions and choose not to follow, it’s always at your own risk. Sometimes it’s fine and other times you ruin something.
