Approximately how much would it cost to finish a 90% finished home?

December 1st, 2009 at 1:30

I found a really nice 4,000 sq ft. home for 350 K. But it is only 90% finished and the house still needs cabinets, counters, paint, flooring and landscaping. I would like to have simple granite tops however and for landscaping nothing too fancy just some grass. Can anyone help me estimate the cost of all this?

Aye, you know, it’s always hard to place a figure because the cost of material and labor greatly varies by location; anyone who gives you a figure on here does so without foundation, so you are not any better positioned to make an informative decision than you were before you posted your question. I went through a similar process and received much help in my time of questions and confusion, so here I am returning the favor.

Your best bet would be to get free, no-obligation estimates from local contractors and three of such for each project. There’s no point of waiting: You can easily have contractors come by to observe the house from the outside that you anticipate on buying to give you a better, accurate cost analysis of what it will cost you to put in the countertops, cabinets, paint, flooring, landscaping.

So, call around, or, in fact, you can conveniently and simply request these free estimates online by looking at handyman sites that offer these online tools to do it. The following are links from a handyman site I have used for its informative articles:

    1) Cabinetry & Counters: The handyman site has a section dedicated to countertops and cabinetry, where you’ll find a text-link ad that offers up to four (4) Free Estimates from such local cabinetry contractors in your area (scroll down a bit and it’s the text-link towards the middle of the page):

    3) Flooring: The site also has a section devoted to floors, where you’ll find a text-link ad that offers up to four (4) Free estimates from local flooring contractors who can provide you more information about the types of flooring available in your area and that’s best suited for your house layout (when you click the link below, on the new page, just scroll down a bit and you’ll see the text-link, "Find Flooring Contractos…Get Up to 4 Quotes Now…Free"):

It would cost 10% of the price of a fully finishes home.
