Is there a way to cover up my ugly green tile floor?

October 25th, 2009 at 18:43

My roommate and I want to do a black and white bathroom, but it has an ugly green tile floor! We rent the apartment, so any changes we make have to be removable. Besides putting down rugs, is there any kind of temporary black colored flooring we can put down?

You might think this is strange, but check out this website…

This is garage flooring..expensive, but not if you are just doing a bathroom like you want…you can do black and white..it is slip proof, highly resiliant to everything, and is a removable floor that can be taken up when you leave. It really would work for you and what you want.

No there isn’t. I would get the biggest rug you can find and ignore what green you can see.

Here’s a blog on painting floor tiles:

Explains when to paint, how to paint, what to paint with! BUT you are renting so this is a no go!

If you want to do a temporary floor and NOT paint get some rubber floor tiles (Rubber isn’t an ugly floor either… its actually pretty awesome AND affordable – don’t think of rubber in that way) There are TONS of really cool and fun options… and they slip right in.
    Here’s some rubber flooring info:

If you decide to do this make sure you choose interlocking tiles. They slip right in! Its really cool it could be a cool option for you guys.(affordable as well)
And of course rugs. but you said you don’t want that… PLUS even if you got carpet – you cant glue them down so they’ll move all the time…. that would just suck

There is a floating vinyl floor available. You just cut it to shape and lay it in place. How it would work over tile and grout lines? I’m not sure.
You’d have to install a quarter round onto the base afterward to hide the edges. It is quite a bit of work for a temp fix, but it is doable.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Doubtful you will find anything unless you just buy some black indoor outdoor carpeting and cut it to fit there– I say indoor/outdoor since it would stand up to the moisture better.
Could maybe get some heavy plastic to lay down, and buy some vinyl tiles to put down as a temp flooring but not sure how well it would work. Certainly don’t want to install on the existing tiles, since the glue on vinyl tiles sticks really really well.

You can paint tiles beside scraping them and replacing them.
